August 19, 2021, Coquitlam, British Columbia - As the result of a unique partnership between Concert, the YMCA of Greater Vancouver and the City of Coquitlam, we are pleased to announce the launch of the Heart of Burquitlam, a new master-planned community. Located just steps from the Burquitlam SkyTrain station on the Evergreen Line, the Heart of Burquitlam is the result of years of thoughtful planning and collaboration between various levels of government, not-for-profit organizations and private enterprise.
Coquitlam receives its first YMCA centre of community
The Heart of Burquitlam includes Coquitlam’s first YMCA centre of community that will offer health programs, fitness and aquatics facilities, as well as youth leadership, employment and wellness services to inspire people of all ages to stay healthy and engaged. The building is set to open in the fall of 2022. Learn more here.
New 31-storey rental tower to be Coquitlam’s most energy-efficient
The 308-home, 31-storey residential rental tower currently under construction next to the YMCA at 551 Emerson Street, will include 100 rental homes providing a variety of affordability options, and will be the most energy-efficient residential tower in Coquitlam. The building, made possible by investments by Concert, the Government of Canada and CMHC, BC Housing, the City of Coquitlam, and operational support from the not-for-profit 43 Housing Society, is expected to be completed by the spring of 2023. Landmark 50-storey condo designed to foster connection
Myriad, a landmark 50-storey condominium building located next to the YMCA, offers its own array of amenities designed to foster connection amongst residents. The entire top floor has been uniquely designed and dedicated for all residents to enjoy. A large social lounge, a rooftop terrace with a BBQ and an outdoor children’s play area provides residents with stunning 50th floor views in every direction. Sales are expected to begin fall 2021; find out more here.
Building a diverse and sustainable community
Condominium, market and non-market rental homes in the community will be built to exceed sustainability standards and add diversity to an already cosmopolitan neighbourhood. A centrally located community police station and a new Park-and-Ride facility will be complemented by an array of diverse shops and services, with culturally rich dining experiences. A renewed city park and expansive public plaza will celebrate gathering and inclusion with thoughtful places to play, meet and relax. The park will also contribute to the rich variety of parks within minutes of the site.
Diverse homes, a wealth of community amenities, with shops, services, dining and recreation nearby, and just steps to transit – the Heart of Burquitlam is a community built on human connection, designed to make life easier and deliver a new standard for inclusive communities. Quotes
“Concert is proud to join the YMCA of Greater Vancouver and the City of Coquitlam in a unique partnership to deliver this new master-planned community to Coquitlam. It’s only through years of thoughtful planning and investments by all three partners that we’re able to deliver such a wealth of community amenities that include affordable, assured homes exceeding sustainability standards, for a wide diversity of residents. This is our ninth master-planned community built or in development across Canada, and we remain committed to working together with the people we serve to realize our vision—building resilient, inclusive, sustainable communities, and a people-first future,” says Brian McCauley, President & CEO, Concert.
“When we consider all of the complexities of good community building today, it is more than any municipal government can accomplish by themselves. It takes all sectors – government, development and non-profit – to come together with a vision for an area. The Heart of Burquitlam is the result of one such vision, bringing homes, shops and services, a state-of-the-art YMCA Community Centre, access to transit, park space and a community police station all together in one area. I look forward to seeing this project come to life,” says Richard Stewart, Mayor, City of Coquitlam.
“As a charity dedicated to helping people of all ages and abilities reach their full potential, the YMCA of Greater Vancouver is thrilled to partner with the City of Coquitlam and Concert to bring a new state-of-the-art YMCA to this vibrant community. This YMCA is also made possible due to the generosity of our donors. When we open the doors of the new Coquitlam YMCA in fall 2022, it will mark our fifth centre of community across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers are excited to welcome the community and provide a safe and inclusive place where they can access life-changing programs and services,” says Stephen Butz, President & CEO, YMCA of Greater Vancouver.
