People-first spotlight: Sergio Perut

A people-first philosophy makes Concert Properties an award-winning workplace. This month we are proud to profile an exceptional employee who shares the company’s values and demonstrates their commitment to our principles. Meet Sergio Perut, Director, Construction, who joined Concert Properties' Toronto office in 2005.

Have you always been on this career path, or did you start in another field?

Fortunately, my career has always been in construction. After receiving a degree in Civil Engineering, my first position was for a lowrise builder overseeing subdivisions. I later transitioned to highrise construction, working for different developers. Over time my roles varied and included site supervision, contract and project management.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

The relationships with my coworkers at Concert Properties. I have worked with a lot of great people over the years, and I really enjoy the spontaneous discussions that take place in the office kitchen at lunchtime or when getting a coffee.

What have you accomplished at Concert Properties that you are most proud of?

I’m particularly proud of the first project I led, our One32 rental community, because we introduced several novel design features during working drawings and construction. I am also proud of all the other projects the company has developed and built over the years in Toronto. I’ve been involved with many of them from design to construction, witnessing their evolution into vibrant communities.

What is one thing most people don’t know about your role?

How varied it is and how many other areas it can affect outside of construction. Although my focus is on construction, there are times where I need to consider development, legal and financial constraints before making a decision. I also need to be well versed in architecture, building science as well as other disciplines of engineering to be most effective in my role.

What is the best piece of professional advice you have been given?

If you don’t know something, don’t be afraid to ask. Staying silent only perpetuates ignorance and can adversely affect the end product. It’s always best to share your knowledge and encourage those who are willing to learn.

Tell us about your favourite memory at Concert Properties

I have too many to list; but our staff social events and our fundraising golf tournaments stand out as my most memorable moments.

When you’re not Sergio Perut, Director, Construction, what do you like to do?

When I have free time, I like to read. I also like to watch sports, documentaries or a good TV series.
