People first spotlight: Anne Marie Carey

A people-first philosophy helps make Concert Properties an award-winning workplace. This month, we are proud to feature an employee who exemplifies these values and demonstrates her commitment to the company’s principles. Meet Anne Marie Carey, Manager, Investments, who joined Concert Properties in 2019 and has since played a vital role in asset management and leasing across our industrial, office and multi-family properties.

Have you always been on this career path, or did you start in another field?
I stumbled into real estate. Having studied both Human Kinetics and Commerce in university, I initially worked as a Kinesiologist, then followed my passion for advertising and worked at several ad  agencies. It was by chance, while doing temp work to fund international travels, that I found a home at a commercial real estate brokerage. The rest is history.

What do you enjoy most about working here?
It’s always about the people. I love the diversity and quirkiness of everyone I get to work with. There is a thoughtfulness and diligence in the way we tackle our work that makes it very rewarding.

What have you accomplished at Concert Properties that you are most proud of?
While a bit more obscure than identifying a single transaction or project, I’m most proud that throughout my time at Concert Properties, I’ve been called upon to contribute within multi-disciplinary project teams, gaining exposure to the worlds of development, construction, sustainability and digital transformation to name a few. I couldn’t ask for a better learning curve.

How have you advanced professionally since you’ve been with Concert Properties?
Within a year of joining Concert Properties as a Project Coordinator on the Investments team, I was given the opportunity to venture into asset management. This was presented as a possibility when I interviewed, but to have that become a reality at such an accelerated pace was a meaningful indication of the confidence my team had in me.

What makes Concert Properties a top workplace in your mind?
I especially appreciate the small gestures. Whether it’s a few boxes of ice cream sandwiches making the rounds in the office on a hot summer day or monthly cakes to celebrate birthdays, there’s a real sense of family and friendship that makes each day memorable.

Tell us about your favourite memory at Concert Properties.
Our annual volunteer day with Youth Without Shelter (YWS) jumps to mind. From carrying in load after load of food donations, to facilitating a day where these amazing young adults can take a break from it all and get caught up in laughter and friendly competition, the experience always leaves a lasting and positive impact on all involved. It is merely one example of Concert Properties’ ongoing commitment to giving back.

When you’re not working as Manager, Investments, what do you like to do?
I’m a sports fanatic. After playing ultimate frisbee internationally for 20+ years, my latest obsessions have been learning ice hockey and beach tennis (look it up, it’s amazing!)
