Women in the real estate development and construction sector continue to drive change and make significant progress toward gender equity. As more women step into leadership roles, a future industry with diverse perspectives and opportunities for all becomes increasingly achievable.
International Women’s Day (IWD) takes place on March 8, and this year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, emphasizes the importance of making meaningful change to achieving gender equality. At Concert Properties, we believe real change happens through action. That’s why we invest in programs supporting women in trades, leadership and career development—giving them the resources to succeed.
Access to education and hands-on training are key to breaking down gender barriers in trades. Concert Properties has invested over $2.5 million in BCIT ’s Trades Discovery Program, funding bursaries and hands-on experience to help those in need , including women, find the right career and thrive in the construction industry. Through our support of BCIT’s Jill of All Trades program, female high school students can envision a career in the trades as a viable option. Our funding for Camosun College’s Mobile Pipe Trades Trailer also brings education directly to remote communities, expanding opportunities for hundreds of women and Indigenous community members. We also actively support women in trades at George Brown College and the Hammer heads program in Ontario.
At Concert Properties, we don’t just talk about equity—we build it into our workplace. Women make up 58% of our workforce and 46% of leadership. From a 95% salary top-up during maternity leave to leadership coaching through Maturn, we ensure women have the support to grow their careers while balancing personal responsibilities. Regular pay equity reviews and gender diversity education further reinforce our dedication to an inclusive workplace, a key pillar of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy.
Our commitment to women’s empowerment extends beyond our workplace. Concert Properties partners with organizations that provide housing, career resources and opportunities for women in need. Through support for Dress for Success, we help women prepare for the workforce with professional development. Our partnership with the North York Women’s Shelter ensures women escaping domestic violence have access to critical safety and support services.
