Concert was established in 1989 and is owned by 19 union and management pension funds representing over 200,000 Canadians. From its very beginnings, this unique ownership structure has provided the company with a strong financial backing, has played an integral role in shaping the company’s goals and culture, and continues to drive Concert today.
Concert’s diversification over the years in terms of asset class and geography has been motivated by a desire to manage risk on behalf of our shareholders and to supply them with a continuous return on their investment. While initially focused exclusively on providing affordable rental housing in Vancouver, Concert has since expanded to develop condominium homes and seniors housing in British Columbia and Ontario, while also acquiring and developing various types of commercial property throughout British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. Most recently, the company also expanded into the Canadian infrastructure market through the formation of Concert Infrastructure Ltd.
Our ongoing commitment to our shareholders and to the highest standards of quality construction means that Concert employs skilled, union labourers exclusively on our construction sites – since our inception we have generated 20.8 million person hours of union employment and counting! With the help of these skilled union craftspeople, Concert has become synonymous with quality across Canada.
With the continued support of our shareholders and the skilled craftspeople we employ, Concert’s future never looked so bright. Click here for more information on the pension funds who invest in Concert.
