On February 2, 2018, a successful partnership between the City of Vancouver and Concert delivered a new below-market rental building at The Creek, Concert’s master-plan community located in the Southeast False Creek neighbourhood of Vancouver. The Railyard Housing Co-op was officially opened by City of Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, Concert President and CEO Brian McCauley, Executive Director of the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC (CHF BC) Thom Armstrong and Director of Development of the Community Land Trust Foundation of BC Tiffany Duzita.
The 15-storey rental building, located at 95 East 1 Avenue, will provide 135 suites of much-needed affordable housing geared towards families. The Community Land Trust, a non-profit society serving as the real estate development component of the Co-operative Housing Federation of BC, is the operator of the new Railyard Housing Co-op building.
"This project is a great example of how the City of Vancouver, the private sector, and non-profits are working together to build more affordable rental housing for people who live and work in Vancouver," said Mayor Gregor Robertson.
Concert was founded in 1989 with a mandate to provide assured rental housing in BC. Today, Concert is BC’s largest developer of purpose-built rental communities and one of the largest residential rental owners in BC. Concert proudly develops, owns and manages real estate with a focus on community building by incorporating a broad base of amenities and services for our residents and the surrounding communities.
Over the years, Concert has developed nearly 12,000 rental and condominium homes and currently has over 7,600 homes in the planning stages, including 2,700 purpose-built rental housing suites.
"As a company who has been committed to building strong, sustainable communities across Canada since 1989, we are proud to deliver the City this much needed affordable rental housing," said Brian McCauley. "This project demonstrates how developers can be a valued government partner and affordable housing solution provider."
