Concert Properties recently hosted its annual charity golf tournaments in Vancouver and Toronto, raising significant funds for skilled trades training programs across Canada. This year’s tropical-themed events were held at Surrey’s Northview Golf & Country Club on September 5 and Markham’s Angus Glen Golf Club on September 12. Industry partners, consultants and suppliers gathered for a day of friendly competition, with volunteers from Concert Properties helping to ensure all had a good time.
Thanks to the generosity of our participants, the 2024 tournament is set to push contributions to trades training over $5 million since the first tournament was held in 1995. Combined with our historic $7.5 million donation in 2022 to BCIT for the Concert Properties Centre for Trades & Technology, total contributions to empowering the next generation of trades professionals now exceed $12 million. Interim CEO John Dooling shared his gratitude with attendees, saying, “These tournaments are about more than just a day of golf. They represent our ongoing commitment to building strong, skilled trades across Canada. The funds raised will help students access essential education and training, paving the way for long-term career opportunities. We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated and contributed to this important cause.”
At this year’s Vancouver tournament, guests were introduced to Camosun College’s Red Seal Pipe Trades Trailer, an innovative mobile classroom purchased with funds raised at the tournament that brings hands-on learning to remote and underserved communities across Vancouver Island. Kyle Preston, Chair of Trades and Special Projects at Camosun College, expressed his appreciation. “The Pipe Trades Trailer is more than just a classroom on wheels—it’s a lifeline to students who otherwise might not have access to trades education. Thanks to the support of Concert Properties and events like today’s tournament, we’ve been able to inspire and equip over 2,200 participants, including women, Indigenous peoples and individuals with disabilities, to pursue promising careers in the skilled trades.”
At our Toronto tournament, James St. John, Director of the Central Ontario Building Trades’ Hammer Heads Program, spoke about the history and the impact of this support for their trades training program. “Since our partnership began in 2011, Concert Properties and their industry partners have generously raised and donated nearly $700,000 to the Hammer Heads Program and has assisted us in starting over 700 apprenticeships for under-resourced and under-represented youth. We are truly grateful for the support, and we appreciate the continued commitment to assisting us in linking the youth we service to life-changing careers in the construction industry.”
Concert Properties is proud to support programs like these, which play a vital role in creating pathways to success for students across Canada. We extend a heartfelt thank you to all the participants and volunteers who made this year’s events possible. Together, we’re making a lasting impact on the future of the skilled trades industry.
