Preserving the Past for the Future

At Jazz in Toronto, Concert respects what has come before while setting the stage for modern urban livability.

Toronto, ON, Canada – Concert Properties unveiled a heritage plaque today at Jazz, its new 388-suite rental property in downtown Toronto, in keeping with its mandate to be a developer with a difference that places value on preserving the past while planning for the future generations.

Blending the past with the present by retaining the history of the neighbourhoods in which it builds, Concert respects what has come before while setting the stage for modern urban livability.

“Completed in a Moorish Revival Style, a rarity in Toronto, Jazz is architecturally significant for its brick craftsmanship,” said Brian McCauley, Senior Vice President, Eastern Operations, Concert Properties. “Located at Church and Shuter Streets in downtown Toronto, Concert successfully retained the heritage façade at 167 Church Street, along with the replication of both 163 and 157 Church Street, within the base of the new building.”

Home to its first tenants as of April 1, 2006, Jazz offers new assured rental living with high-style finishes, including open concept kitchens, in-suite laundry and fabulous city views from private terraces and balconies. Building amenities include the Jazz Club lounge with fireplace, a private theatre, fitness club, billiards room and more.

This 28-storey $68 million highrise also offers landscaped courtyards and ground floor retail. With the financial district just steps away and in keeping with Concert’s community-based focus, Jazz is surrounded by shops, restaurants, parks and nightlife, offering a lifestyle of ultimate livability and convenience. The final phase will be available for occupancy in August 2006.

“Not only is Jazz a heritage-inspired building, it is also a ‘greener building’ with a more environmentally sustainable design, including ‘green roofs’ on the eighth floor wings,” adds McCauley.

Councillor Kyle Rae from the City of Toronto and Ernest Buchner, Executive Director, Heritage Toronto attended the unveiling.

Jazz has been selected to be included in the Doors Open event, which showcases the city of Toronto’s heritage buildings. Doors Open will take place on May 27 and 28, 2006.

Part of a $300 million commitment to develop more than 2,000 new assured market and seniors rental housing in the Toronto area, the completion of Jazz brings the Concert/OMERS partnership that much closer to achieving its goal. Jazz is Concert’s second rental residential partnership with Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Service (OMERS), one of Canada’s largest pension funds.
