The Innovative Workplace Award recognizes a business or organization that has created a respectful workplace that supports the wellness and diverse needs of its employees and demonstrates excellence in encouraging individuals to balance the demands and rewards of career, family, community and personal growth.

Judged by a panel of ten business and community leaders, the Women of Distinction Awards began in 1984 to honour, encourage and recognize women whose outstanding activities and achievements contribute to the health and future of the community. In 2005, the Innovative Workplace Award was introduced to recognize businesses and organizations that promote a variety of positive values, including work/life balance.
The winners were announced at the 2009 Women of Distinction Awards Dinner on June 3, 2009 at the Westin Bayshore, Vancouver.
