FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 16, 2020, Vancouver, BC – Concert is pleased to announce that John Dooling has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer effective July 1, 2020. Dooling takes over from John McLaughlin, a mentor and friend with whom he has worked alongside since the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympics in 2005. McLaughlin retires June 30, 2020.
“I first got to know John Dooling when he worked with me on the Olympics,” says McLaughlin. “Our profession is not just about being a good accountant, it’s also about thinking strategically and building relationships – John has a real knack for engaging people. He’ll be a great CFO.”
Since joining Concert in 2014, Dooling has been instrumental in building an exceptional team in the finance and accounting functions at Concert, and taking on increasingly challenging roles throughout his tenure, and is well prepared to succeed McLaughlin.
“I’ll be bringing a lot of what John taught me to the role,” says John Dooling. “It’ll be tough to see him go, but I understand his desire to enjoy his good health and see more of the world.”
“John Mclaughlin’s many accomplishments during his nine-year tenure include leading our Finance and Accounting modernization and broader corporate Digital Transformation efforts, and overseeing a 250% increase in our assets and 300% increase of our shareholder equity. He was rightly named by Business in Vancouver as CFO of the Year in 2019,” adds Brian McCauley, Concert President & CEO. “While John McLaughlin leaves big shoes to fill, I’m pleased by the smooth transition and confident, steady hand that John Dooling will provide Concert.”
For his part, Dooling is excited about taking over the CFO reins at this particular point in time. “The lockdowns were devastating to the economy, but Concert is in really good shape, thanks to the integrity of our shareholders, the strength of our management, our strong liquidity, and a conservative approach to leverage,” he says. “Just as I’ve learned a lot from John over the years, we at Concert have learned from our 30 years of experience that making decisions based on our values is the right thing to do.”
